When the institute was formed in the year 1949 in the month of june/july..shri C.S. shastri, a noted chartered accountant of chennai went to shri aurobindo and requested him through a letter to give an emblem to the newly formed institute of which he was an elected member of the south .....shri aurobindo gave him the emblem with the garuda in the centre and a quoation from the upanishad: ya esa suptesu jagarati', the one who is awake amongst those who are asleep.
The emblem was first placed at the first meeting of the council of the institute in new delhi on august 15,1949 and was accepted from among many other emblems placed by other members of the council . So that became the emblem of the institute of chartered accountants of india(ICAI).very few people know about it and most of the students and members of the institute do not know about it..thanking you.
